Challenge Program awards announced

A total of $30,000 in cash awards was awarded to 120 Fayette County students attending local high schools this year through the Challenge Program. The non-profit program partners with businesses to motivate students to excel in the classroom and in their communities, while educating them on local career opportunities.

Students received a $250 check for being recognized as a top student in their grade level in one of the following areas: most improved academically, best attendance, community service or best overall Grade Point Average (GPA). Winners were selected in the three upper grade levels.

Winners from each school and their sponsoring business ambassadors are as follows:

Albert Gallatin Area Senior High School, sponsored by TeleTech and Planning Systems, Inc.

– Sophomore class winners were: Annalee Hancheck, best attendance; Melissa Cuppett, most improved; Bethany Provance, best GPA: Lacey Greeley, most community service.

– Junior class winners were: Kasey Radicic, best attendance; Heather Hudak, most improved; Bryant Garland, best GPA; Christina Adams, most community service.

– Senior class winners were: Jonathan Nesnec, best attendance; Adomas Povilianskas, most improved; Emmy Lou Derryberry, most community service.

Brownsville Area High School, sponsored by Mr. Lou Brown, high-tech entrepreneur.
