Hookahville XXX

By Clint Rhodes 2 min read

Looking for a great way to close out the summer season? Hookahville XXX promises to bring the summer to a laid-back, jam-filled musical close. This bi-annual event is celebrating its 30th season with a full schedule of bands performing over the Labor Day weekend. Ohio’s own (and host band) ekoostik hookah opens the festival Friday night with a signature style that has made them one of the top jam bands you’ll hear.

Held at Legend Valley, the venue is just 25 miles east of downtown Columbus, Ohio, and features an assortment of additional performers including Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Arrested Development, Perpetual Groove, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk and numerous other quality acts.

Personally, I was thrilled to hear that Big Head Todd and the Monsters were performing on the bill. I’ve always been a fan of the Colorado-based band, but have yet to see them perform a live show. I’ve been listening to Todd’s 2007 release “All the Love You Need,” and I’ve fallen in love with it. I highly recommend giving it a listen, since the band is offering a download of the album for free on their Web site. Recognized for years for their live performances, these talented musicians promise to deliver a memorable show.

You’ll find more than just first-rate music at Hookahville. Patrons can enjoy basic camping necessities with numerous vendors equipped with a variety of cuisine for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night snacks. A wide assortment of merchandise will also be available.

Tickets are available for $80 at the gate. You can also call 1-866-55-TICKETS for more information. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. Hookahville provides a number of activities designed to entertain and educate, for children to enjoy during the weekend.

Only a three-hour drive from Pittsburgh, there’s no excuse not to load up and hit the road for this uniquely entertaining spectacular. According to the event’s Web site, must follow rules fall under the “No Hassles or Bad Attitudes” category. For three days in Ohio, hassles and attitudes will be checked at the gate. Sounds to me like the perfect weekend.

You can also catch ekoostik hookah in Pittsburgh at Mr. Small’s on Oct. 10.
