Luzerne studies road closing
LUZERNE TWP. – The township’s emergency management coordinator, Bob Miller, assured Luzerne residents that plans are in place to assure a timely response to emergencies during the yearlong closing of Bull Run Road. At last week’s meeting of the township supervisors, Miller said that he has met with the ambulance services and fire departments serving the township to discuss response plans. Miller told the supervisors that Fayette Ambulance would try to have an ambulance stationed in Republic at all times.
In addition, Miller said that arrangements have been made with Fayette County 9-1-1 to have a dual response on all emergency calls in the township to avoid delays in response that could occur due to the closed road. Residents were reminded to place all emergency calls through 9-1-1 and not to call the police station, fire departments or ambulance services directly.
In other matters, the supervisors voted to hire Pennoni and Associates to conduct the Historical Coal Records Report and surveying work needed in order for coal to be mined at Patsy Hillman Park. The cost of the work will be shared with Brownsville Borough, which co-owns the park with the township.
The supervisors also voted to support proposed legislation for countywide wage tax collection.
