MDA lock-up scheduled
Local business leaders will voluntarily be heading to “jail” to help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The MDA lock-up will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Titlow Tavern & Grille in Uniontown.
The “jailbirds” will be sentenced to serve one hour of their time to raise bail money by calling their friends, family, co-workers, vendors and other corporate contacts asking for contributions to help bail them out.
The Uniontown lock-up raised more than $42,000 last year for the families MDA serves in the Fayette County area. With many of the same volunteers back on board this year, the MDA is looking for another successful event.
The money raised will send local children living with a neuromuscular disease to MDA summer camp and also help MDA assist in the purchase and repair of wheelchairs, leg braces and communication devices for the families that use the association’s services.
MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat 43 neuromuscular diseases, including ALS, through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services and far-reaching professional and public health education. The association’s programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributions.
