Worker hurt in North Union

By Josh Krysak 1 min read

A worker suffered serious injuries after a counterweight from a crane at a business in North Union Township fell on him Monday morning.

Emergency officials said the man, who was not identified, was working on the crane around 9:30 at Coolspring Stone Supply Inc. when the 5- to 10-ton counterweight fell onto his lower body. Emergency personnel said that when they arrived on the scene workers at the site had already used the crane to lift the weight from the man, who was not identified.

Around 10 a.m., a Uniontown Firemen’s Ambulance crew took the man from the lower level of Coolspring Stone Supply to the upper level of the company on Jumonville Road, where he was moved to a medical helicopter. He was subsequently flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., for treatment.

Officials said the man lost two liters of blood and suffered severe injuries to his abdomen and lower body.

Company officials declined to comment Monday afternoon.

In addition to Uniontown Firemen’s Ambulance, volunteer firefighters from North Union Township also responded to the accident.
