HENRY CLAY TWP. – The Fayette County coroner was called to the scene of an accident Saturday evening in Henry Clay Township in which a vehicle caught fire after traveling off the road and into a heavily wooded area. Emergency crews from Markleysburg-Henry Clay Township Volunteer Fire Department and Ohiopyle State Park personnel converged on the scene of the accident near the fire tower along Sugar Loaf Road around 6:45 p.m.

The site of the accident was about 150 yards into the state park and the state park’s jurisdiction.

A fire department spokesman confirmed that the vehicle caught fire after traveling into the woods.

It was believed that only one person was in the vehicle, although that was not confirmed. The identity of the driver and any possible passengers was not available at press time.

While the coroner was called to the scene, no report from the coroner’s office was available late Saturday.
