Volunteers battle two Georges Township fires

Volunteer firefighters from several Fayette County departments scrambled to extinguish two fires at houses in Georges Township early Wednesday. According to officials, the first fire was reported on Church Street Extension at 4:24 a.m.

Volunteer firefighters from Smithfield, Fairchance, Collier and Haydentown responded to the fire, which gutted a newly built home. Officials said no one was in the home when the fire began.

Less than 20 minutes later, firefighters from Smithfield, Fairchance and Collier were dispatched to a fire at a vacant house on Ringer Road.

That home also sustained severe damage as a result of the blaze.

No one was injured in either fire.

The state police fire marshal was called to investigate the causes of the fires.
