LIVE MUSIC – The local band “Southern Discomfort” will play at the Masontown VFW on Friday, Aug. 29 from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. The event is open to the public, and there is an admission charge. BOOK SALE – The Friends of the Flenniken Library will hold their annual book sale through Aug. 30 during regular library hours in the Blue Room. Sale items will not be priced, but will be available for a monetary donation, with proceeds to benefit library programming.
FREE PARTY – The Journey, a new non-denominational church in Nemacolin, is sponsoring a free “Party in the Park” at Nemacolin Park on Saturday, Aug. 30 from 3 to 7 p.m. The event will feature live music by “Intent” and entertainment by “Giggles the Clown” and Illusionist “Faron.” Everyone is welcome to attend. “DOGGONE” POOL PARTY – The Humane Society of Greene County will hold a “Doggone” pool party on Sunday, Aug. 31, at the Mon View Park pool in Greensboro from 2 to 5 p.m. Prizes and award ceremony at 3:30 p.m. to include “Best Swimsuit” and “Best in Pool.” For more info, call the shelter at 724-627-9988.
CHURCH HOMECOMING – On Aug. 31, Fairview United Methodist Church near Graysville will celebrate 160 years of service at its annual homecoming. Sunday School services will begin at 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 10:30 a.m. A covered dish dinner will follow. Rev. Nelson Boone and the church membership invite families and friends of the church to come celebrate. The church is located at 331 Poland Run Road in Graysville.
PADDLE EVENT – Don’t miss “C’mon Paddle” on Sunday, Aug. 31 from 1 – 4 p.m. Meet at the new boat launch site across from the Ice Plant in Glassworks. Participants will paddle about three miles on the Monongahela River upstream to Old Lock 7 and then head across the river to view the Friendship Hill National Historic Site’s river front. The tour will conclude by heading downstream to paddle up Georges Creek in New Geneva to get back to the starting point. Denny Tubbs of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will serve as the tour guide. Bring your own canoe or kayak, or have one provided to you. To reserve your spot, visit NatGreene.org.
JACOBS REUNION – The Jacobs family reunion will be held Sunday, Aug. 31 at Harvey’s Grange. A covered dish dinner will be served at 12 p.m. Family members are encouraged to bring an item for the white elephant sale.

FLEA MARKET – A flea market will be held on Monday, Sept. 1 in the field behind Manneax, across from LeAnn’s Restaurant, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome to sell and buy.
