Connellsville man head to trial for alleged sexual assault
All charges were held for court against a Connellsville man accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old child. Jeremiah J. McGee, 25, of 107 W. Cedar Ave. was charged by Connellsville police with single felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and statutory sexual assault, along with single misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and corruption of minors and other charges stemming from the incident in early December.
Magisterial District Judge Jesse Cramer held the charges against McGee for Fayette County Court following a preliminary hearing Friday.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Connellsville police Sgt. Ron Haggerty, the alleged assault was first reported to Fayette County Children and Youth Services.
Haggerty said that he later interviewed McGee, and McGee allegedly told police that the alleged assault took place while the child was staying at his home.
McGee said that he and the child were sleeping in the same bed when he heard a noise, Haggerty said. When he awoke, he found that the sexual assault was in progress, Haggerty said.
“He stated that he doesn’t know if he was dreaming or if it was an accident,” Haggerty stated in the complaint.
McGee remains in the Fayette County on $100,000 straight cash bond.
