State police seek suspect in robbery
REPUBLIC – State police said they are searching for a man who allegedly held a woman at knifepoint and robbed the St. Vincent DePaul store in Redstone Township Tuesday afternoon. Police said the incident occurred at 2:50 p.m. at the store located on Main Street in Republic when a man wielding what was described as a “butcher knife” approached an employee and demanded money.
The suspect was able steal a small amount of cash and then fled the store on foot, police said.
The woman, who was not identified, was not injured.
Police said the suspect was described as a white man in his late teens or early 20s and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. Police said the man – who was described by witnesses as being between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build – also was wearing a mask.
The Society of St. Vincent DePaul is a charitable organization of the Roman-Catholic Church that is dedicated to helping the poor.
It is not known how much money was stolen from the store.
