– St. John Church will hold its annual fish sandwich and peroghi fund-raiser every Friday during Lent, except on Good Friday. Sandwiches are $4 and peroghi are $5 a dozen.

Christian Church Youth
The Youth Group meets on Sunday nights in the Family Life Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m. All youth in grades 6 through 12 are invited to attend. This group participates in activities such as selling hot dogs and chili for Pioneer Days, participating in the Crop Walk, going to the Fright Farm and decorating the Family Life Center for Christmas. Many of the youth group serve as greeters and help with the smaller children in the church nursery. The Youth Group sells cookie dough and pizza to fund their annual trip to Habitat for Humanity. It’s refreshing to see this group of young people contributing so much to the church and community.
Beading Class
Authentic American Indian beading classes, taught by the granddaughter of a full-blooded Blackfoot Indian are held at the Perry Township building in Star Junction each Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. Supplies are readily available at most department and fabric stores or on the Internet. Stop in on any Friday or call Gracie at 724-736-2335.
Altar Society news
St. John Church Altar Society in Perryopolis will receive communion this month on Feb. 17 at the 8:30 a.m. Mass, followed by the regular meeting. The rosary will be recited at 7:45 a.m. The lectors for this Mass are P. Novobilsky and S. Daniels.
Parks and Recreation
The Perryopolis Parks and Recreation Authority invites residents of Perryopolis to attend the monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the council room of the Perryopolis Borough building. Officers this year are Lisa Barota, president; Garrett Hoose, vice president; Elma Sokol, secretary; and Noreen Halvonik, treasurer.
Tax forms
Federal tax forms are available at the Perryopolis Post Office. State tax forms are available at the Frazier Community Library. The community library is open to the public after school hours. Please do not go to the library during school hours.
Meeting
The Ladies Roman Star Lodge meeting will be held at the Perryopolis Sons of Italy on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Travel
The Perryopolis Senior Travel Club has openings for the Cape May / Wildwood, N.J., trip from May 19-23. For more information, call the tour director, Dee Domonkos, at 724-736-2909.
Kids Club
The Christian Church Kids Club meets every Monday from 5:25 to 7:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center. All kids in grades K through 5 are invited to attend. This group enjoys music, a Bible lesson and dinner every week. Last October, they went to Idlewild for Halloween fun. In December, they performed “The Backwards Christmas Pageant” and went caroling. Everyone in the Kids Club has a “blessing jar” and since September have raised over $200, which they donate to the “Adopt a Family” program at Christmas. They are currently selling 2008-09 pocket calendars at $2 each. These are a great group of kids doing great deeds.
Perryopolis Ecumenical
The Perryopolis Community Lenten Services include the following:
Wednesday at the Perryopolis United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Lubic; Feb. 20 at the Harmony Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bob Moffat; Feb. 27 at the Star Junction United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Malone; March 5 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Jim Myers; March 12 at St. John the Baptist Church with Pastor Clarence Camara. This will be a youth-oriented service.
All services are on Wednesdays, starting at noon. A luncheon will follow at approximately 12:30 p.m.
