Francis “Fran” Bigley, 67, of Mapletown, Pa., died Sunday, February 10, 2008, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born… Francis “Fran” Bigley, 67, of Mapletown, Pa., died Sunday, February 10, 2008, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Oct. 27, 1940, in Greensburg, Pa., he was a son of Bernard F. Bigley, Sr. of Dunbar, Pa., and the late Emily Leapline Bigley.
A graduate of California University of Pennsylvania, he was the Industrial Arts teacher at Southeastern Greene School District’s Mapletown High School, until his retirement in 1998, and was also the highly regarded high school boy’s basketball coach for 22 years. Following his retirement, Fran continued to officiate basketball games, and assist as timekeeper at Mapletown’s home games. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing bluegrass music on his banjo.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Louise Williams Bigley; a daughter, Evonne Bigley-DeNome of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three sons: Bernard “Buddy” Bigley, Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Timothy “Timmy” Bigley of Bobtown, Pa., Michael Bigley, Esquire, of Mapletown; six grandchildren: Mark A. DeNome, Jr., Ashley, Nicholas, Taylor, Tyler and Jacob Bigley; two brothers: John Bigley of Clarksville, Pa., and David Bigley of Washington, Pa.; and two sisters: Regina Lambie-Nazimek of Connellsville, Pa., and Lois Jean Bigley of Dunbar.
The family will receive friends at the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Frank Vucic and the Rev. Jenny Williams officiating. Interment follows in Garards Fort Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be offered to the Fran Bigley Memorial Fund for the benefit of Mapletown Jr.-Sr. High School, c/o Community Bank, 100 North Market Street, Carmichaels, Pa., 15320.
