Hearing continued in traffic accident case
A preliminary hearing was continued Thursday for a Fairchance woman whose vehicle allegedly struck a Fayette County man riding a bicycle in December. Audra Lee Kay, 34, of 8 Laurel St. was charged Feb. 4 before Magisterial District Judge Randy S. Abraham with felony counts of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol, accidents involving death or personal injury and accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed.
She also faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of alcohol, accidents involving damage to attended vehicles and three traffic-related charges, police said.
Police allege that Kay was driving under the influence of drugs on Route 857 in Georges Township when her vehicle struck Brian Paul Keefer, 32, as he was riding his bike the afternoon of Dec. 21.
According to police, Keefer suffered severer injuries as a result of the incident, including a broken left leg and left arm. He is now under the care of a home nurse that visits him three times a week.
Kay is free on $50,000 unsecured bond.
A preliminary hearing will be rescheduled before Abraham.
