Lloyd Leon Hunter, Jr., 71 of Lemont Furnace, Pa., was called home peacefully by his Lord and Savior on Monday,… Lloyd Leon Hunter, Jr., 71 of Lemont Furnace, Pa., was called home peacefully by his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 11, 2008, from the Uniontown Hospital.
Leon was born on May 9, 1936, in Trotter, Fayette County, Pa.
Leon graduated from the now former Dunbar Township High School in 1954.
He was employed with Bell Telephone as a lineman and installer for forty years.
He was a member of The Pioneers of America and was a past member of the Prince Hall Mount Piscah Masonic Lodge 91 and past Patron Naomi 7 OESTHA.
Leon was a faithful member of Interfaith Assembly for Christ Church in Uniontown, Pa., where he served as a Steward, Usher and Senior Choir Member.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Lenora Wilson Hunter, his maternal grandparents, Rudolph and Essie Spencer Harris, his parents, Lloyd and Thelma Harris Hunter, his step-mother, Estelle L. McCarthy Hunter, and two brothers, Fred Hunter and Thomas Hunter.
Cherishing precious memories of Leon are: his devoted and loving wife of 50 years, Natalie Thomas Hunter; his loving daughter, Stephanie Michelle “Mike” and her husband Ernest F. Carey Jr., West Mifflin, Pa.; his granddaughter, the love of his life, Joy Grace; three brothers: Robert C. (Christine) Hunter, Mobile, Alabama, William E. (Cherlyn) Davis Jr., Chesterbrook, Pa., Clifford L. (Carolina) Hunter Sr., Uledi, Pa.; three sisters: Maxine (John) Robinson, Fayetteville, North Carolina, Norma Jean Hunter, Columbus, Ohio, and Polly A. (the Rev. James L. Cherry Jr.), Uniontown, Pa.; brothers-in-law: Richard “Pete” (Bernadine) Thomas, Waldorf, Maryland, Joseph “Brother” Thomas, Uniontown, Pa., Clyde “Kiki” Thomas, Washington, D.C.; two sisters-in-law: Nana “Patti” Hickenbottom, Germantown, Maryland, and Lucy Coley, Washington, D.C.; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Friends will be received in the MURIEL E. LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, 297 East Main Street, Uniontown, Pa., today from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The Funeral Service will be held at Lantz Funeral Home on Monday, February 18, 2008, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James L. Cherry Jr. officiating and the Rev. Howard E. Dantzler Sr. delivering the Euology.
Interment will follow in the Thomas Cemetery, Hopwood, Pennsylvania.
