… Andy Hanchin, age 85, of Uniontown, Pa., died on Saturday, February 16, 2008, in LaFayette Manor Nursing Home, Uniontown, Pa.
He was born on March 5, 1922, in Scranton, Pa., the son of John Hanchin and Anna (Barnick) Hanchin.
Andy was a member of Saint John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church.
He was a former employee of the now former Spitzler Meat Packing Company.
Andy proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart Medal after he was severely wounded by a land mine in Italy.
Andy was a member of American Legion Post 51 in Uniontown, Pa.
His parents, brothers, Mike Hanchin and John Hanchin, and sisters, Kathryn Fiffick, Irene Kurilla, Mary Fabian and Ann Quarrick, preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are a sister, Julia Schweickert of Detroit, Michigan; nieces and nephews: Mary Lou and Andrew Fabian, Joe and Paul Fiffick, Margaret, John, Francine, Mike and Rita Schweickert and Michael Kurilla.
He also leaves behind his loving caregivers, whom he cherished as his family: Tammy Sutton and her husband, Chuck, and their son, Michael Haines, and his children, Shane and Justine, also Charles Sutton and his daughter and son, Mikayla and Arron, and Erick Sutton and his son, Erick Sutton Jr., whom Andy lovingly nicknamed “Jasper”, all of Uniontown, Pa.; former caregivers: Judy Stepanik and her husband, Paul, and their children, Michael, Bryon, Kishua, Stacy and Paula, also Jeanie Foster, Rhonda Smithley, Mary Ann Holp and Jackie Lippart.
Friends will be received at the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, Pa., on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. A Panachida Service will be held at 1 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Father Thomas J. Wesdock officiating.
Interment will follow in Mount Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa., where Military Honors and Rites will be accorded by the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Hopwood, Pa.
