Sylvia May Dunham, 96 years of Gans, Pa., born February 26, 1911, in Springhill Township, Pa., passed away peacefully Tuesday… Sylvia May Dunham, 96 years of Gans, Pa., born February 26, 1911, in Springhill Township, Pa., passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, February 19, 2008, at home with her loving family by her side.
She was the daughter of the late Orville Umble and Florence Hickle Umble.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Paul E. Dunham, Sr. in 1972, her son, Paul E. Dunham, Jr. in March 2007, grandson, David Bryan, granddaughter, Dina Dunham, great-grandson, Tyler O’Neil, sisters, Beatrice Roderick and Claudine Roderick, brothers, Lester Umble, Andrew Umble and Wilbert Umble and son-in-law, Robert Weller.
Sylvia was a lifelong member of the Gans United Methodist Church. Sylvia loved to garden, cook, swing on the swing and loved her family dearly.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Pauline Weller, Loretta Jane Monahan and husband, George William Monahan, Donald Dunham and wife, Ruth Dunham, Audrey Strimel and husband, Ralph Strimel and Janet Franks and husband, Howard Franks; her 19 beloved grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Takovich; daughter-in-law, Theresa Dunham; and many nieces and nephews .
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa. today from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday from 2 to 4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, February 23, 2008, until 11 a.m. the hour of service with Pastor Sharon Robinson officiating.
Interment will follow in Miller-Sisler Cemetery, Haydentown, Pa.
The family would like to extend a tremendous thank you to her beloved granddaughter, Sharon Grimm, R.N. who took great care of her grandmother during her last days and without whom they could not have kept her at home which was her greatest wish. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Saradar and his staff and the Point Marion Firemen’s Ambulance for all the excellent patient care given to Sylvia.
