Ray R. VanSickle, 83, of Vanderbilt, Pa., was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, February 21,… Ray R. VanSickle, 83, of Vanderbilt, Pa., was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, February 21, 2008, at his home while surrounded and comforted by his loving family.

He was born October 22, 1924, in Markleysburg, Pa., a son of the late John and Bertha Workman VanSickle.

Ray had been a resident of Vanderbilt for the late 50 years. Prior to his retirement, Ray worked as a Conductor for CSX for over 43 years. He was also a member of the United Transportation Union. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Army Reserves.

Ray was a member of the Pennsville Baptist Church.

Ray will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his loving wife Evelyn M. Klippi VanSickle, whom he married on November 29, 1950; his sons, Curtis VanSickle of Hanover, Michigan, Terry S. VanSickle and wife Marilyn of Dickerson Run, and Douglas B. VanSickle and wife Renee of Jordan, Montana; his daughter, Joyce Whitacre and husband Ray of Dunbar; his grandchildren, Tammy Rhodes and husband Curt of Smithfield, Evelyn Altobelli and husband Paul and Genie VanSickle all of Warren, MI, Lisa Jones and husband Steve of Fairchance, Curtis VanSickle Jr. and wife Christine of Erie, Russell Whitacre and wife Christine of Uniontown, Rod Whitacre and companion Mary DePalm of Acme, Charity Stamates and husband Stuart of Dunbar, Calista Coffman and husband D.J. of Scottdale, Linette Stimmel and husband Rex and Melissa Reed and husband Scott all of Springhill, FL, and Rachel Scherier and husband Todd of Tampa, FL; his 20 great-grandchildren; and his sister Cora Hardin of Cleveland, OH. Ray will also be sadly missed by his good friend Charles “Dick” Shaffer of Dickerson Run.

In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by a son, James R. VanSickle, a granddaughter, Christine Franks, a brother Fred VanSickle, and a sister Winnie Christopher.

Family and friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville, Pa., on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 9 p.m. Additional viewing will be held on Monday from 12 noon until 1 p.m., the hour of a funeral service in the Pennsville Baptist Church, Bullskin Township, with the Rev. Dr. Terry V. Murray and the Rev. Robert Bixel co-officiating.

A Committal service and interment will follow in the Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown.

Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Hopwood AMVETS #103.
