She was born December 4, 1934, in Uniontown, the daughter of the late Isaac Wendell and Jessie (Gault) Rider. Virginia has been a resident of Uniontown, for the past 12 years.
Survivors include her sister, Mary (Rider) George and her husband, Clarence George; two sons: Samuel A. Valentino and wife, Serena of Westwood, Ma., and William R. Valentino and wife, Sudha of Charleston, W. Va.; and three grandchildren: Gabriella A. Valentino, Gavin A. Valentino and Arianna G. Valentino.
Virginia received a Bachlors Degree from W.V.U. in 1957, and in 1976, she earned a Master’s degree in mathematics. In 1988, she graduated from W.V.U. with an EdD in mathematics education. Virginia has taught at Bridgeport High School, Ohio, West Liberty College, W. Va., Coconut Creek High School, Fla., Mount Vernon College, Washington, DC, West Virginia University and California University of Pa.
She was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Uniontown, and a former member of the Session. She enjoyed a lifetime membership in the Friends of the Uniontown Public Library, as well as, membership in the National DAR, and local Chapter Col. Andrew Lynn. She volunteered for the Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers of Fayette County.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa. Friends may call in the TRINITY UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, Uniontown, on Friday, February 29, 2008, from 10 until 11 a.m., at which time services will be held celebrating her life with the Rev. Michael I. Orsted officiating.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Virginia has requested memorials may be made to Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Interfaith Caregivers, or the Uniontown Pubic Library.
