FRANKLIN TWP. – State police took a 14-year-old Greene County boy into custody Wednesday afternoon after he was discovered with a handgun at a school in Franklin Township. Police said the boy, who was not identified, was visiting the Greene County Career and Technology Center when school officials found he had a small-caliber revolver in his possession.

Troopers took the boy, who is a student in West Greene School District, into custody without incident at the school on Zimmerman Road around 12:30 p.m.

He was subsequently turned over to the Greene County Department of Juvenile Probation. Police said he was later remanded to the Westmoreland County Juvenile Detention Center.

Tom Croft, director of the career and technology center, could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon. West Greene Superintendent Thelma Szarell was not available as of press time.
