Firefighter save dog from house fire

By Josh Krysak 1 min read

Firefighters rescued a dog from a fire that damaged a North Union Township home Thursday afternoon.

About 10 minutes after crews started battling the blaze at the brick home on Roosevelt Circle, firefighters emerged from the home with the dog, which appeared uninjured. Thick, gray smoke billowed from the eaves of the home as firefighters set up ladders around the residence.

Firefighters broke out first floor windows and tossed out items charred by the flames.

Yellow hoses snaked down Sylvanus Street to the home, where firefighters set up fans to pull the smoke from the building.

At one point, Uniontown firefighters Rob Thomas and Roger Bricker scaled the roof of the home and cut a hole in the peak to allow the fire to ventilate.

It was not clear who owned the home Thursday night. No one was in the residence when the fire began.

The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.

The house sustained severe smoke and water damage and much of the interior was destroyed by the flames.

Volunteer firefighters from North Union Township, Hopwood and West Leisenring joined firefighters from Uniontown and emergency personnel from Uniontown Fireman’s Ambulance at the scene.
