Woman uses heater to fight off intruders

By Josh Krysak 2 min read

A Uniontown woman used a space heater to fight off three men who broke into her home Friday morning. Uniontown police Sgt. Wayne Brown said the incident occurred at 2 a.m., when police were dispatched to a home on Evans Street for a reported robbery.

Brown said that when police arrived, they found Rose Wilcox of Uniontown, who reported that three men had broken into her home on Markle Street just moments before.

Police then responded to Wilcox’s home to search for the men but no suspects were found.

According to Brown, the men smashed a window on the kitchen door of Wilcox’s residence to gain entry to the home and then demanded money from her.

Wilcox told Brown that she picked up an electric space heater and struck one the men with it before fleeing the residence to a friend’s home on Evans Street, where she called police, Brown said.

Wilcox told police that no items were stolen from the home, Brown said.

The suspects were described as white men each wearing different colored facemasks, Brown said.

Wilcox told police that she saw the men prior to the incident milling around the parking lot of Lafayette School on Connellsville Street.

Anyone with information regarding the home invasion is asked to call police at 724-430-2929.
