Perry Farrell – Song Yet to be Sung

By Smalls 2 min read

Perry Farrell is a man of many faces.

Best known for his flamboyant antics as front man for Jane’s Addiction Perry Farrell, born Peretz Bernstein, has been determined to prove Nothing’s Shocking. His chosen stage name Perry Farrell is said to have been chosen because of its play on the word periphial. Since Jane’s Addiction released their self-titled debut album on little known XXX Records in 1986 Perry’s voice and songwriting talent have helped guide Jane’s Addiction to the top of the alternative pyramid. When Jane’s Addiction lost bass player Eric Avery in the mid-nineties it put their recording schedule on hold.

Didn’t stop Perry from recording though, he joined forces with Peter Distifano and Jane’s drummer Stephen Perkins and recruited Mike Watt and Martin Lenoble to handle the low end and formed Porno for Pyros. Porno recorded two albums and are best known for their single ‘Pets’. Jane’s was later joined by bassist Chris Chaney as a permanent replacement on bass and began recording and touring again.

Somewhere among all of this Perry found time to write and record twelve new songs. He released these tunes on the Virgin label in 2001 under the title Song Yet to be Sung. The album incorporates both the old rocking sound you’d expect from the lead singer of Jane’s Addiction along with some of the ‘new-school’ electronic sounds of the twenty-first century. This album is great and has a bunch of new sounds not only new to what you’d expect from Perry, but new to music in general. If you like Perry’s voice or Jane’s Addiction than you have to get this. If you liked his voice but weren’t a fan of the hard music of Jane’s then you have to get this. If you liked Porno for Pyros then you have to get this. If you’re not sure who Perry Farrell is then you have to get this.
