CENTERVILLE – An informational meeting will be held tonight at the Richeyville Volunteer Fire Hall regarding the installation of new gas lines in the village. The borough council Monday set the permit rate at 40 cents/linear foot for the 11,600 foot proposed project to replace the utility lines. Council also approved a site on Grant Street near the playground as the site of the temporary construction trailer location for Columbia Gas.

Columbia Gas representative Jerry Contino told council the company intends to restore all of the streets once the project is completed and it will also make improvements to the site being used for the construction trailer.

“We’ll make it better than it was before and we will also be donating to the fire departments,” Contino said.

The public information meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Mayor Frank Stanko praised the two part-time police officers hired in October to supplement the full-time staff. Council President Patsy Ricciutti agreed that the new officers are working out well.

“I see them everywhere. The two officers that were hired are excellent officers,” Ricciutti said.

Council also adopted a resolution supporting a grant application being made by the Tri-County Joint Municipal Authority for a grant under the Washington County Local Share account from the Meadows slots casino. The water authority intends to use the grant money for the design and construction of a backwash facility for the water treatment plant.

The council voted to reappoint Bill Worthington to a five-year term on the Center-West Joint Sewer Authority. Charles Zebley was reappointed to a five-year term on the Zoning Hearing Board. There were no applicants for the board of appeals.

Council voted to renew the borough’s liability insurance. The premium dropped from $21,000 to $20,000. Workers compensation insurance will cost the borough $34,000 this year.
