Missing Greene County man found dead, Jan. 9

DUNKARD TWP. – A Greene County man was found dead Tuesday morning, less than a day after he was reported missing State police said the body of Robert B. Cumpston Jr., 36, of Greensboro was found at 10 a.m. in a vehicle submerged in Dunkard Creek.

Cumpston had been reported missing at 4:50 p.m. Monday, police said.

Trooper Brian Siege said the exact time of the crash is not known.

According to Siege, police believe Cumpston was traveling north of Route 88 when the crash occurred.

In a written report, Siege indicated the vehicle crashed while rounding a sharp left-hand curve in the road. The vehicle then traveled off the road, through a grassy area and into the creek, police said.

Siege said Cumpston’s body was found in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

Greene County Coroner Greg Rohanna pronounced Cumpston dead at 12:05 p.m.

Police said an autopsy is being conducted.

Results of the autopsy were not available Tuesday night.

Greene County Deputy Coroner Mary Ann Lewis said forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht of Allegheny County is conducting the autopsy, noting that results are expected today.

Assisting police on scene was Point Marion Volunteer Fire Department River Rescue, Rices Landing Volunteer Fire Department Dive Team, and volunteer fire departments from Bobtown and Nemacolin.
