Man seriously injured in accident
REDSTONE TWP. – One man suffered serious injuries Wednesday afternoon when the vehicle he was driving and a tri-axle collided on Route 166.
Officials said Jerome Edwards, 55, of Adah was injured in the crash, which occurred around 3 p.m. in the area of Merrittstown Crossroads. Emergency personnel worked to free Edwards from the wreckage following the collision.
State police identified the driver of the tractor-trailer truck as being Scott A. Sibula, 40, of Brownsville. He was not injured in the crash, officials said.
According to police, vehicles driven by Edwards and Bernard Brundege, 73, of Hibbs collided before Edwards’ vehicle and the tractor-trailer truck crashed.
It was not known Wednesday if Brundege suffered injuries as a result.
According to Republic volunteer firefighters, Edwards was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.
Edwards was listed as a patient in the hospital Wednesday night.
Emergency crews closed Republic Road for about an hour while the wreckage was cleared.
Volunteer firefighters from Republic, New Salem and Allison 2, along with emergency personnel from Fayette EMS and the state police, responded to the crash.
