Argument results in charges

A Greene County woman posted $25,000 straight cash bond Friday, just two days after firing a handgun at her husband following an argument over sex. State police said Davetta Lynn Thomas, 36, of 230 Easy St., Waynesburg, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Glenn Bates with simple assault, harassment and reckless endangerment after she allegedly fired the weapon at her husband, Gerald Dewey Thomas, 39, also of Waynesburg.

Police said the incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday at the couple’s home in Franklin Township.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Trooper Samuel E. Spino, the couple began arguing about sex in the bedroom of their home when Davetta Thomas retrieved a 9mm handgun from beneath the bed.

Spino said Davetta Thomas allegedly loaded the weapon with a clip and then fired a shot that Spino described as “just missing the victim’s head.”

Spino said Davetta Thomas allegedly attempted to load another bullet into the chamber but the gun jammed and Gerald Thomas was able to wrest the weapon from her. Spino said police found a single gunshot hole in the wall of the home during their investigation.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday before Bates.
