John E. Matty Sr., 86, of Star Junction, Pa., passed away Thursday, January 10, 2008.

He was born February 11, 1921, at Star Junction, Pa., the son of the late Andrew and Mary Kalman Matty.
John was a member of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis, Pa. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army in the China and Burma Campaign. He was a member of the American Legion Post 51 of Uniontown, Pa., Sokol Assembly 725 of Perryopolis and Santa Barbara Club of Newell, Pa.
John is survived by three sons, John E. Matty Jr. and wife Doreen of Fayette City, Pa., Douglas Matty of Perryopolis, Brian Matty and wife Mary of Monaca, Pa.; grandchildren, John III, David, Frank, Christine, Greg, Brian Jr., Adam, Patrick; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Matty and wife Virginia of Star Junction; two sisters, Mrs. Albert (Patty) Chlebowski of Scottdale, Pa., Mrs. Fred (Connie) Tylka of Belle Vernon, Pa., and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Matty, three brothers, Andrew Matty, Joseph Matty, Steve Matty and one sister, Mary Logoyda.
Friends will be received in the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME INC., 106 East Independence Street, Perryopolis, Pa., this evening from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where a prayer service will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis, Pa., with the Rev. Father John Sedlak as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Perryopolis, Pa.
Military graveside rites will be accorded by VFW Gold Star Post 7023 and American Legion 752, Perryopolis. A wake service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
The Perropolis Slovak Catholic Sokol Club will conduct a service on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
