Chory leads Maples on winning streak
After a long Christmas and New Years break, some teams need a little time to shake the rust off. Apparently, the Mapletown girls team is not one of them. The Maples got 2008 off to a fast start as they rolled up a 3-0 record this past week and it wasn’t surprising who led them. Senior forward Erika Chory put together an impressive trio of games that moved the Maples to 9-4 overall and more importantly improved their section record to 2-2.
For her efforts in the wins, Chory is this week’s Greene County Messenger Athlete of the Week.
This is the second such award for Chory, who is also a Mapletown cheerleader during the boys basketball games, this year.
Chory and the Maples kicked the year off with a 43-39 win over a much improved Callifornia team. During the Section 2-A win, Chory dominated her opponents to the tune of 22 points and 10 rebounds.
The next night, Chory and her teammates survived a slow scoring night to edge past Burgettstown in an overtime thriller.
The senior scored 13 of her team’s 44 points during a 44-42 win.
Finally, this past Monday, the Maples doubled up West Greene in another section showdown by the final score of 44-22.
Chory again led all scorers, this time with 12 points.
