He was born in Footedale, Pa., on March 2, 1927, son of the late Issie and Alcinda Sims.
He is preceded in death by wife, Alverta Jean Thomas Sims, daughter, Fredricka, and his siblings, Ossie, John, Nanny, Althea, Alberta and Dan.
Fred is survived by eight loving and devoted children: April Grady, Daniel Sims, Kylie Sims Thomas, Nila Sims and Misty Sims all of Uniontown, Pa., Lois Herring of Buffalo, N.Y., Clyde D. Sims and wife, Mona of Boothwyn, Pa. and Alcinda Sims of Alexandria, Va.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by beloved brother, Boston Sims, Sr. of Uniontown; sister, Mary Sims Chambers of Manhattan, N.Y. and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Fred Sims graduated from Uniontown High School and served in the United States Navy before owning his business in Uniontown with his wife.
Daddy lived a life of courage, wisdom, honesty, integrity and devotion to family and will be deeply missed by all who came to know him with us whom will certainly continue to love him through eternity.
Friends will be received on Thursday, January 17, 2008, from 5 to 9 p.m. in the MURIEL E. LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, 297 East Main Street, Uniontown, Pa., where services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2008, at 11 a.m. the hour of service. With Rev. Brian McLee of Mt. Rose Baptist Church in Uniontown will be officiating and Rev. Howard E. Dantzler and Bishop Leonard Tucker will be assisting.
Internment will follow immediately after in the Thomas Cemetery in Hopwood, Pa.
