DUNBAR TWP. – State police are continuing to investigate the death of a woman found dead in her car outside her home in Dunbar Township Monday night. However, police said Tuesday that they do not suspect foul play.

Fayette County Deputy Coroner Marisa Springer said Susan J. Mongell, 49, of Kirk Street was found dead in a car that was reported on fire around 10:30 p.m. She was pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner Ross Rock at 11:10 p.m.

Deputy Coroner Jessie Langer said Tuesday that the cause of death is pending further investigation.

According to officials, Monarch and Morrell firefighters were called to Kirk Street for a reported vehicle fire. When firefighters arrived at the scene in an area known as Wheeler Bottom, they extinguished the burning car and discovered Mongell’s body inside, officials said.

Emergency personnel found Mongell’s purse outside the vehicle.

State police said investigators believe Mongell was parking in front of her home when the engine compartment caught fire.

Police said the vehicle then drifted backward into a parked vehicle.

Mongell was disabled and could not exit the vehicle, police said, noting that it is not clear whether she died from natural causes or smoke inhalation.

The state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Brooks Funeral Home in Connellsville is handling funeral arrangements.
