He was born on March 3, 1932, in Smock, Pa., the son of Aloysius Batya and Helen Bernadette (Stanzel) Batya.
Joseph was a lifelong member of Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, infant Mary Batya, infant JoAnn Batya, and Helen B. Batya, and two brothers, infant Eugene Batya and Aloysius Batya Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Ann (Check) Batya; one brother, Emery Batya and his wife, Mary, of Uniontown, Pa.; nephews and nieces: Sonny Batya, Mikey Batya, Johnny Batya, Danny Batya, Mary Metcalf and her husband, Gary, Barbara Christopher and her husband, Charles, and Helen Pegg; great nieces: Kathleen and Rebecca; and many cousins.
Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, Pa., on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, until 9:15 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, North Mount Vernon Avenue, with the Rev. Father Micah E. Kozoil as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Mount Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
Wake Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
