Fayette County Phone scam

State police at Uniontown reported receiving numerous complaints regarding a possible phone scam.

Police said complainants are contacted by an unknown male and told they can now receive free health insurance. The unknown male then asks for personal banking information from the complainants.

State police remind citizens not to give personal information via the telephone.

Connellsville

Driver charged

Michael E. Swickey, 52, of Dawson was taken into custody and charged with DUI by state police Friday after he failed to negotiate a right turn along North Pittsburgh Street extension, Connellsville, around 4:15 p.m., striking a guardrail.

Police said Swickey allegedly failed to stop and proceeded west on to Narrows Road, dragging approximately 20 feet of guardrail from the crash site. Police said he then traveled approximately four miles and was located on Hickory Square Road in Upper Tyrone Township, his vehicle engulfed in flames as a result of the crash.

Everson and Connellsville Township fire departments assisted with the vehicle fire and traffic control.

Fairchance

PFA violation logged

Timothy William Nicholson Jr., 24, of Connellsville was charged by state police with a violation of a Protection From Abuse Order (PFA) issued against him by a Fairchance woman after he allegedly contacted her by telephone at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Vehicle crashes

A vehicle driven by Ashley N. Rozer, 18, of Point Marion, traveling north on Sleepy Hollow Road, crashed after she hit an ice patch, caused from a water main break, around 7:26 a.m. on Tuesday, according to police.

Police said Rozer’s vehicle traveled off the roadway, struck a fence and then a tree before coming to rest. She was wearing a lap and shoulder belt, according to police.

Pots stolen

Nine ceramic flowerpots were stolen from the residence of Lloyd Leroy Carter, 60, of Carters Road, Carmichaels, between Tuesday and Thursday, said police.

Bullskin Twp.

Assault alleged

Justin Matthew Jellots, 24, of Bullskin Township was charged Friday with simple assault, harassment and making terroristic threats against Cassie M. Jellots, 23, of Sherwood Circle. Police filed charges before District Judge Ronald Haggerty.

Redstone Twp.

Theft reported

Holly Robbins, 44, of Uniontown was arrested by state police at Belle Vernon after she was allegedly caught taking items from the Grindstone Foodland store at 2:50 p.m. Friday, according to police. Robbins was lodged in the Fayette County Prison following arraignment.

Morris Twp.

Woman injured

Police said Elizabeth M. Shrader, 54, of West Finley was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital with injuries suffered Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. when she lost control of her vehicle on snow-covered Browns Creek Road, and her vehicle struck a tree.

Dunkard Twp.

Warrant served

Russell Lee Chipps Jr., 30, of Bobtown, was picked up by state police at Waynesburg at 7:28 p.m. on Thursday on a bench warrant from Fayette County. He was transported to Uniontown and lodged in the Fayette County Prison, said police.

Perry Twp.

Copper stolen

Approximately 700 feet of copper fiber optic cable, owned by Verizon, was stolen between Friday and Saturday from an area along Route 4017. Value of the stolen property is estimated at $4,000.

Anyone with information concerning the theft is asked to contact state police at Belle Vernon.
