Delores Givogre Harger, Do-Do, 77 of Newell, Pa., passed away peacefully the morning of Wednesday, January 23, 2008, in the… Delores Givogre Harger, Do-Do, 77 of Newell, Pa., passed away peacefully the morning of Wednesday, January 23, 2008, in the Washington County Health Center.

She was the beloved wife of Edwin S. Harger, who cared for her so lovingly and patiently over the past twelve years as she battled Alzheimer’s disease. They met at the “Piggy Wiggy” Skating Rink in Belle Vernon, Pa., and continued to be avid Roller Skaters, Ice Skaters and dancers for most of their lives together. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in April.

Born in Brownsville General Hospital, Delores Marie Givogre was the first born child of Joseph Givogre and Catherine Bielek Givogre and spent a very happy childhood in California, Pennsylvania.

“Do-Do” graduated from California High School in 1948 and then went on to the Douglas Business School.

After graduating, she was employed for a time with the Valley Independent Newspaper. After this initial job, she began a career at Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation where she worked for 33 years in the California office. She worked as a secretary, ran the print shop, did payroll and served in many other areas during her career. Upon retirement, she worked as the Assistant Office Manager of the Newell Federal Credit Union for approximately 10 years.

“Do-Do” was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Newell and belonged to its Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

She was known for her many talents, particularly her artistic, sewing and crafting skills.

“Do-Do” was a Den Mother for the Newell Cub Scouts in past years and was also a member of the Newell Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Santa Barbara Italian Club in Newell.

Surviving are her loving and devoted husband, Edwin S. Harger, and her cherished, only child, a son, Martin L Harger Sr. of Newell, Pa. In addition, she was dearly loved and adored by her only sister, Mary Givogre Tafel, wife of the Reverend Gregory S. Tafel of Easton, Pa. Delores was blessed with two grandchildren whom she cherished and adored, a grandson, Martin L. Harger Jr. and his wife Jamie Strothers Harger, of Perryopolis, Pa., and a granddaughter, Amber Lynn Harger, now living in Michigan. She was blessed with two great-granddaughters, Sage Lynn Harger and Chloe Morgan Harger of Perryopolis. She was the most wonderful aunt in the world and will be dearly missed by her nephews, Justin Tafel and Jared Tafel, and Jared’s wife, Adria Basi Tafel. In addition, she is survived by four sisters-in-law: Ruth Harger Winsing of Uniontown, Pa., Lorraine Fuller Harger of Middletown, Ohio, Margaret Decovich Harger of Brownsville, Pa., and Donna Kelly of Florida. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews on the Harger side of the family.

“Do-Do” was predeceased by her parents and by a beloved younger brother, William Joseph Givogre “Billy Boy”, who died in 1949 at the age of 12 after a long battle with leukemia. Finally, Do-Do is reunited with her precious little brother and her beloved parents in heaven.

Friends will be received in the ELEY/MCCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC., 334 Main Street, Fayette City, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday, January 28, 2008, until 9:30 a.m. when a Blessing Service will take place.

A Funeral Mass follows at 10 a.m. in the Saint Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, Belle Vernon, with the Rev. Father Lawrence Manchas as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in the LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pennsylvania.

Contributions may be made in memory of Delores G. Harger “Do-Do”, to The Adult Day Center, The Center in the Woods, 130 Woodland Court, Brownsville, PA 15417.

The family is greatful to the Adult Day Center for the loving care they gave to “Do-Do” during the last year that she was able to be at home. She loved seeing “all the people” and dancing on music days.
