Paul J. “Joe” Shartzer, 72, of Uniontown, Pa, died on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at the Uniontown Hospital, surrounded by… Paul J. “Joe” Shartzer, 72, of Uniontown, Pa, died on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at the Uniontown Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 28, 1935, in Uniontown, Pa., son of Paul and Marie Shartzer.

His parents, infant sons, Jeffery Alan Shartzer and Joseph Ray Shartzer and a brother, Roger Shartzer preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years Doris (Cope) Shartzer; and their daughter, Debbie Jo Johnston and husband, Tom Johnston, Jr. of Uniontown, Pa. He also leaves behind his beloved “Grand-pets”.

“Joe” was a graduate of Uniontown High School, class of 1953. He retired from Sproul Lumber Company where he was a security guard for 27 years. Prior to that, he was a parts manager with Herring Motors Volkswagen Dealership.

An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Bass Masters’ Club and a member of Hutchinson Sportsmen’s Club.

Friends will be received at the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue, Extension, Uniontown, Pa, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday, February 1, 2008, until 11 a.m., the hour of service with Pastor Dale R. Rexrode officiating.

Interment will be held privately at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
