… Isaac T. Melvin “Hard Rock”, 85, of Brownsville passed away in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital Tuesday, January 29, 2008.
He was born July 26, 1922, in Uniontown, to the late Henry and Pinkie Melvin.
He was a graduate of Redstone High School in Republic, Pa. He was a certified coal miner, a certified mechanic, and a heavy equipment operator. He retired from the United Mineworkers. Illustrious Isaac T. Melvin, 32nd degree, was a member of Keystone Lodge 52, A.F.&A.M., and a member of all Masonic Houses. He was a lifelong member and Executive Chairman of the NAACP of Fayette County. He was a born again Christian and was a member of the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church where he was a trustee, a Sunday school teacher, sang in the Male Choir and was a bus driver for the church.
He is survived by his wife Edna Melvin of Brownsville; his children: Isaac H. Melvin (Yvonica), Rev. Dr. Jean Melvin-Martin, Esq., (Milton), Thomas Melvin, John Johnson, Linda Royster (Alfred), Edna Brown (Leroy), Davis Hall, Eddie Hall (Pam), Dale Hall, William Hall (Sabrina), Jamie Hall, Charlette Melvin, and Gerald Hall.
Friends will be received at the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, Cardale, Pa., on Friday, February 1, from 2 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic ritualistic service at a time to be announced. A Homegoing service will be held on Saturday, February 2, at 11 a.m., with the Pastor Richard Calloway officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the MURIEL LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, Uniontown, and the LAW FUNERAL HOME, Brownsville.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
