Fairchance VFD hosting firemen’s convention
The Fairchance Volunteer Fire Department announced it will host the 115th Annual Western Pennsylvania Firemen’s Association Convention Aug. 8-13 at the Fairchance VFD fairgrounds in Fairchance. The convention will feature many different competitions and activities, and the public is invited to attend, according to convention organizers.
Additionally, organizers said the Fairchance VFD is seeking sponsors for the activities planned for the event including the annual golf outing and the convention program book.

Advertisements for the convention program will be accepted until July 10.
This year’s convention will kickoff at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, with food and games, the Little Miss and Mr. Fairchance pageants and live music.
On Saturday, Aug. 9, the convention will host a car, truck and bike show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and also have karaoke from 3 to 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Aug. 10, which is designated as family day at the convention, the featured activities will be the battle of the barrel competition at 10 a.m., a parade at 5 p.m. and music by the Fabulous Hubcaps beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Organizers said activities on Monday, Aug. 11, will include multiple banquets and the golf outing at 8:30 a.m. at Springdale Golf Course in South Union Township, followed by an awards ceremony and the annual business meeting Tuesday, Aug. 12.
The convention will conclude Wednesday, Aug. 13, with the election of officers for the Western Pennsylvania Firemen’s Association, followed by the annual memorial service for fallen firefighters at the First Baptist Church in Fairchance at 2 p.m.
