Happy Fourth of July!!
America’s birthday, Independence Day, Fourth of July. They’re different names for the same holiday commemorating America’s independence from Great Britain 232 years ago. The patriotic day is usually celebrated with colorful fireworks displays, often accompanied by patriotic anthems celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence securing America’s freedom.
Some of the songs that one may hear over the holiday include “The Star Spangled Banner”, America the beautiful”, and “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Additionally, many people also like to celebrate the annual holiday with cookouts, barbeques and picnics with family and friends.
Mike Pasqua of Masontown said he and his wife, Melissa, are planning a Fourth of July party this weekend.
“We’ll have hot dogs and other good food, and we play Bocce and yard darts,” he said. “Later on in the day, we plan on attending the Masontown Fourth of July festivities and eating some of their famous shaved ice cones and watching the spectacular display of fireworks from our neighbors’ back porch.”
SpinIt reader Angela said “on the Fourth of July we try to educate our children on the real meaning of the holiday. It’s not just food and fireworks. We travel to the cemetery and remember all who fought for our freedom and give thanks to all we have now. We as most families have a party and try to spend time with our family and friends enjoying each others company and reminiscing about way back when.”
As for me, my boyfriend and I have a big party the weekend after the fourth because it is right around his birthday. That way all of our friends and family can attend, and we have an abundance of food and drinks and desserts, and I’m getting hungry.
