County church softball playoffs get underway

Fourth-seeded Greene Hills took on fifth-seeded Fairmount United Methodist, third-seeded Oakview United Methodist matched up with sixth-seeded Jefferson Baptist and second-seeded Hewitt Presbyterian drew seventh-seeded Mount Morris Gospel Tabernacle in the opening round. The Bobtown Padres, the league’s top seed, received a first-round bye. The series were contested in a best-of-five format.
On Tuesday, Greene Hills picked up a pair of wins over Fairmount by the finals of 19-15 and 15-13. That same night, Oakview ruled to a pair of impressive victories (26-6 and 16-6). Finally, Hewitt beat Mount Morris 24-14 in game one and followed with a 30-4 blowout in game two.
Games three and four, if necessary, were scheduled to be played this past Thursday. Should they be needed, any game fives will be contested tonight.
The semifinals, which are scheduled to get underway on Tuesday, July 22, will feature Bobtown taking on the winner of Greene Hills and Fairmount.
The other semifinal showdown will pit the winner of Hewitt and Mount Morris vs. the winner of Jefferson and Oakview.

The finals will also be contested in a best-of-five format starting on July 29.
The league initially began the season with 10 teams, but due to various reasons and factors, Fairall United Methodist, Greene Valley Church of God and First Baptist Church of Waynesburg were unable to compete in the postseason.
