Commissioners seek letters of interest for hotel tax board

By Amy Zalar 2 min read

The Fayette County commissioners are seeking letters of interest from people wishing to serve on either the hotel tax grant board, the Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureau or the Fayette County Redevelopment Authority. The deadline to submit letters of interest is Aug. 8.

There are three vacancies on the hotel tax grant board, which is being formed as a result of the county initiating a 3 percent hotel occupancy tax. The board members will be responsible for deciding how the grant funds will be distributed.

The LHVB board, which has one opening, is the designated tourist promotion agency responsible to market the tourist attractions in Fayette County. The appointed representative serves the interest of Fayette County.

The redevelopment authority board, which has one opening, approves general policies and operations of the authority. The redevelopment authority is responsible for community development and single-family affordable housing initiatives.

The redevelopment authority owns the Fayette County Business Park on Route 40 in South Union Township and administers federal and state grant funds.

To date, the commissioners have only received five letters of interest for individuals wishing to fill vacant positions on the three boards.

Interested people can submit letters to Commission Chairman Vincent Zapotosky at 61 E. Main St. Uniontown, Pa. 15401.

Upon receipt of letters, interviews will be scheduled with all three commissioners. The commissioners are slated to make appointments at the Aug. 28 monthly meeting.
