Reward offered for information about dog hanging
The U.S. Humane Society is now offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the hanging death of a dog in South Union Township. The Fayette County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is investigating the hanging after Chief Humane Officer Julie Dewar said she received a call July 15 from the dog’s owner reporting that he found his 2-year-old pit-bull hanging from a tree.
Dewar said that when she arrived at his home in Huggins Mobile Home Park, the owner, who was not identified, already had cut the animal down in an attempt to try and save the dog but was unsuccessful.
Dewar said humane officers have several suspects but have not made an arrest.
Dewar said several complaints about the dog had been lodged with the SPCA in the past, but no serious infractions were noted. She said the animal simply had been reported loose in the area.
Anyone with information regarding the hanging is asked to call the SPCA at 724-438-3121.
