U.S. Air Force Maj. Danny L. Walters was recognized at a Change of Command ceremony April 30, when he was named the commander of the 55th Maintenance Operations Squadron at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. A native of Fayette County and 1991 graduate of Brownsville Area High School, Walters graduated from the University of New Haven in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in aviation management. He earned his commission through the University of Connecticut Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program.

Walters’ first assignment was at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia in 1996, and he completed the Aircraft Maintenance Officer’s Course at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas in 1997, according to the program for the Change of Command ceremony.

He was reassigned in 1999 to the 463rd Airlift Group at Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas, holding several positions with the Group. He attended Squadron Officer’s School and earned a master’s degree in aviation management from Embry Riddle.

Among the highlights of his military career, Walters was assigned to the 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina as an Aircraft Maintenance Unit officer-in-charge, supporting the 77th Fighter Squadron and led two deployments to Operation Northern Watch in 2002 and in 2004 served as flight commander in the 20th Maintenance Operations Squadron, where the ceremony program notes “his flight was lauded as ‘Outstanding’ and ‘Best-seen-to-date’ during the 2004 HQ ACC Unit Compliance Inspection.

Walters in 2005 was reassigned to the Headquarters Air Mobility Command Logistics Directorate at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, where he served in several positions.

He is married to Angela Leigh Walters, and they have two children, a 14-year-old son, Cody, and 9-year-old daughter, Miranda. He is the son of Cynthia Walters of Cardale.
