Every year fairgoers flock to the Indoor Arena to watch the wide variety of concerts at the Fayette County Fair. Rock, oldies and country acts offer different styles of music to please everyone. At 7 p.m. on Sunday, audiences were given a rare treat by seeing an artist that defined country music. This particular artist is Johnny Cash, portrayed by Terry Lee Goffee, in his show The “Ultimate” Johnny Cash Tribute.

As soon as Goffee took the stage, the crowd knew they were in for an amazing show. Goffee truly looked like “The Man in Black” himself. Once he started to sing, it was easy to see why he is known as the “ultimate” Cash tribute artist.

“I have spent over 30 years in the music business,” said Goffee. “My father was a huge Johnny Cash fan, and when he brought home his (Cash’s) records, I became a fan.”

Goffee wants his fans to see more than a person just singing the songs of Cash. He wants them to see a person who becomes the character of Cash from the beginning of the show to the end.

“For the older audience, we hope we bring back fond memories,” said Goffee. “For the younger audience, we hope we give them a taste of what a Johnny Cash concert was like.”

Goffee treated the audience to some of Cash’s most popular songs including “Train of Love,” “Big River,” “I Walk the Line” and “Folsom Prison Blues.”

When asked what one of his favorite songs to perform was, Goffee replied, “I would say ‘I Walk the Line.’ It seems like it has the greatest meaning to the audience members.”

The Indoor Arena was filled with a large audience of Cash fans.

One member of the audience was Denise Swenglish of Uniontown.

“We saw the concert in the paper, and we like Johnny Cash,” she said.

“I like his music, and I am interested to see what he sounds like.”

Goffee’s performance at the Fayette County Fair was the fourth stop on a 22-day, 13-show tour.

The band will be traveling over 7,000 miles before the tour ends.
