A children’s fishing rodeo has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 14, at Patsy Hillman Park.

The event had been scheduled for this past Saturday, May 31, but it was canceled due to rain that swept through the area.

The catch-and-release event is open to all children between the ages of 6 and 12, with no entry fee. It will be held from 9 a.m. until noon, with registration starting at 8:30 a.m.

All children will receive goody bags and prizes will be given for the child who catches the biggest fish in various age categories.

The Brownsville Chapter of the Izaak Walton League sponsors the event. A light picnic lunch will follow the contest.

Gun club to meet

The South Connellsville Rod and Gun Club will hold its monthly membership meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the clubhouse.

Food will be served following the meeting.

The club is accepting new and renewal memberships. Information is available on the club’s Web site at www.scrgc.org.

Members are also reminded that the shooting range will be closed on June 5, 9, 10 and 26.

Church event June 21-22

The Leisenring St. Vincent de Paul Church will hold its Festival of Friendship June 21 from 5 to 10 p.m. and on June 22 from 2 to 9 p.m.

The event will feature food, children and adult games, a bake sale, Chinese auction, flea market and other activities.

Strawberry festival set

The Saint Andrew Volunteers of the South Connellsville Albright United Methodist Church will host a strawberry festival at its South Pittsburgh Street location from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Cost for adults is $4 and children, ages 3 to 12, $2.25. There is no cost for children under the age of 3.

Hot dogs, sloppy Joes and hot sausage sandwiches will also be available for purchase.

The proceeds benefit the church building fund.

Meeting set

The Southwestern Local Task Force monthly meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Intermediate Unit 1 Harry J. Brownfield Central Office in Coal Center.

Marlene Kubina will present “Assistive Technology” and the annual election of officers will take place.

All parents of children with disabilities as well as personnel from agencies in Washington, Fayette and Greene counties are encouraged to attend.

Summer camp offered

California University of Pennsylvania will host the Camp Invention program, a weeklong summer day experience for children entering grades one through six at Beth-Center Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. the week of June 23-27.

The program is designed to inspire creativity and inventive thinking through hands-on activities and fun.

Children will participate in five inventive modules each day. The program integrates science, mathematics, history and the arts.

This year, the program is being hosted by the Beth-Center School District. Cal U’s Jane Bonari and Nancy Steeley will direct the program, and local, certified teachers will lead five modules each day. Cal U students will serve as counselors.

The program features a low staff to child ratio.

A registration fee includes snacks and a Camp Invention T-shirt.
