Brownsville high school to hold commencement Friday

Brownsville Area High School will hold commencement ceremonies at 6 p.m. Friday in the high school gymnasium. Amber Lynn DiDominic, daughter of John and Lisa DiDominic of Hiller, is valedictorian.

Salutatorian is Lance Vincent Turturice, son of James and Beth Vance of Brownsville and Guy and Robin Turturice of Saint Albans, W.Va.

DiDominic has served as president of the National Honor Society, captain of the varsity soccer and softball teams, vice president of the Interact Club and as a member of student council, the math competition team, the Future Is Mine club, the French Honor Society and the senior cabinet.

A highest honor roll student, she was named the Brownsville Rotary’s December student of the month and received a B’nai B’rith Sports Award.

In the community, she has volunteered at the Brownsville Free Public Library and with the children’s literacy program, “Turn the Pages of Your Imagination… Read!”

DiDominic completed the college-prep program of study in high school and plans to major in engineering at Penn State University.

She is a recipient of the Penn State Kunkle Scholarship, the Nucor Community Scholarship, the Thomas R. and Laura Ridge Scholarship and the Dr. Eric and Michelle Miller Scholarship.

Turturice is a member of the National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society.

A highest honor roll student, he was vice president of the senior class and has participated in the choir, the Interact Club, the Youth Education Association and the student council. He also was a member of the math competition team, the Academic League and the senior cabinet.

Also in school, he has participated in the annual high school musical, the Leo Club, the Junior Engineering Technical Society, the Gateway program, the television/drama club, the Thesbian Society, the Cultural Arts Club and the “Beating the Odds” mentoring program.

He belonged to the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the youth group at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in St. Albans.

Turturice plans to attend Washington & Jefferson College, which awarded him the Presidential Scholarship, to major in chemistry.

He said he wishes to pursue a career in the field of either nanotechnology or chemistry education.

Also, Turturice is the recipient of the Mountain Top Foundation Scholarship and the Costello Family Memorial Scholarship.
