WASHINGTON – Electronics, white goods, and other hard to recycle items will be collected at the Washington County Fair Grounds on Saturday, June 21. The electronics collection event will run from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and is open to the public. Participants do not need to be Washington County residents. The Washington County Planning Commission sponsors the event.

JVS Environmental of Rockwood, Pa., is collecting the electronic items for proper recycling according to state and federal environmental regulations. The items being collected include computer towers and bases (CPU’s), mice, keyboards, speakers, notebook computers, printers, copiers and fax machines. Also accepted will be telephone equipment, testing and lab equipment, televisions, household appliances that don’t contain Freon, lead-acid automobile batteries, answering machines, radios and typewriters.

Most items will be collected free of charge with the following exceptions:

Televisions: a fee of $1/inch (screen size)

Computer monitors – $4

Copier/fax machines – floor models may incur fees.

No lab or testing equipment containing hazardous materials will be accepted.

Participants bringing more than 20 items for recycling must call in advance to make arrangements.

Used oil, antifreeze, oil filters, and automobile batteries will be handled by Hazleton Oil and Environmental Inc., of Hazleton, Pa. There is no fee for those items.
