‘Summer Follies’ to include concert, auction
Every year, Catholic Charities manages to tap the talent and generosity of the community with a benefit concert fund-raiser. This year’s fundraiser will be held on Friday, June 13, and once again be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Waynesburg. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the concert beginning promptly at 7 p.m. Businesses and organizations have been very generous with their donations for the Chinese Auction, which include herbal products, car wash items in a bucket, spa basket and numerous other baskets. Bud Behm has graciously agreed to auction a weekend getaway at a Seven Springs condo, Pittsburgh Symphony tickets, Carnegie Science Center tickets and a sports basket, as well as other items.
“This will be the seventh year for the Summer Follies and each year I am totally amazed at the talent that comes out of Greene County,” said Director Bernie Fox. The Doo Wop Guys, Doug Wilson and Co., and Tom Ankrom will feature music from the 1960s. Other favorites performing will be Katey Bates, Sebastian Chambers, Jackson Gardner, Anne Kayla, Elissa McCracken, Ashley Rittenaur, Vi Hartman, John Buchanan, Tim Grantz, Fuzzy Randolph, Autumn Laskody, Bob Popso, John Yesenosky and Edward Powers. A desert social will follow.
Proceeds from the 2008 Summer Follies benefit people who are served by Catholic Charities in Greene County with programs that include pregnancy and parent support, counseling services, disaster assistance and emergency relief.
Tickets can be purchased in advance and at the door. For more information, call 724-627-6410. Office hours are 9 a.m. till 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
