Junior Reporter for Saturday, June 14
Interested in becoming a member of the Herald-Standard’s Junior Reporter Club? It’s very easy to join. All you have to do is sit down, write a story and send it to the Herald-Standard. It should be typed or printed very clearly.
The stories can be sent to the Herald-Standard, c/o Junior Reporter Club, 8-18 E. Church St., Uniontown, Pa. 15401. They can also be e-mailed to mo’keefe@heraldstandard.com. Each story should contain fewer than 100 words.
Youths writing for the first time receive a letter of congratulations from Herald-Standard Executive Editor Mark O’Keefe, along with a card making them official members of the club.
Youths getting a second story printed receive another letter from O’Keefe and a coupon for a treat from a local business.
Youths getting more than two stories published will receive a certificate of recognition.
Return addresses should also be included with the stories.
The age range for the columns is 7-12, but stories can be submitted by anyone under 18. For more information, call O’Keefe at 724-439-7569.
The topic for June is, “What do you like most about summer?’ Youths can also write about other topics.

What I like best about school is when you go to lunch and summer vacation. The weekends are good too. I like any thing, but school. The reason why I like lunch is you get to eat and you don’t do any work. The reason why I like summer vacation is you don’t go to school, and you can sleep a little longer. My favorite things about school is getting to see my friends. I like to talk to them at lunch, in the hall or in class. One of my most favorite things about school is being one of the statisticians for the boys basketball team. My teacher Mr. Goletz chose two of my friends and myself to be the statisticians. We write down the baskets they made, the ones they missed, fouls, and the score. I think it is very fun. Those are some things I like best about school.

What I like about school is gym because you get to do basketball, dodgeball and chicken run. If you don’t know what chicken run is, it’s a game when you hold a rubber chicken and run to the other side and dodge while people throw balls at you. In my school, dodgeball is an extreme game of dodging balls. If you are the last one in you can throw the dodgeball and try to hit the rim of a basketball hoop to get your team back in the game. This is what I like about school.

What I like about school is gym. I had gym first quarter and I don’t have it now. Gym is fun. We play dodgeball, basketball, hockey and more fun sports. I love dodge ball the most because I am quick at dodging balls. I’m also good at basketball. But, I can’t shoot free throws good.

What I like about school the most is the chance you get to learn and have fun. One example is that you have field trips. I got to have a lot of fun. In school I have gotten two 100 percents in science. I got a B 85 percent in math. I like school sometimes.

I like everything about school. The thing I really like about school is 6-7. I like 6-7 because I have reading strategies. I like reading strategies because those teachers are nice. They also help me with my reading. I have a class that I go to when I am in 6-7. The teacher helps us with our reading, because we are not on the same reading scale as everyone else.
