(Mother) Holliday, 84, of California, Pa., formerly of Low Hill, Pa. died on Wednesday evening, June 18, 2008, at UPMC-Shadyside Hospital with his loving daughter Toni and son-in-law Joe by his side.

He was born in Brownsville, Pa. and was the son of the late Michael and Josephine Holliday.

He was married for 50 years to his beloved wife Elizabeth DeForty Holliday, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his dear son Mitch Holliday.

Emuel is survived by his daughter Antoinette (Toni) Lynne Holliday-Skakandy and her husband Joseph.

Emuel was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army with the 148th Engineers Combat Battalion.

He worked as a conductor on the Monongahela Railroad for the majority of his 40-plus years there. In this role, he looked after the younger men, training and watching out for them.

Through his caring ways, he earned the nickname “Mother” from those young trainees. This name stuck for all the years that he was employed, as well as into his retirement.

Emuel enjoyed the later years of his retirement in the home of his daughter and son-in-law spending his time listening to polka music, enjoying the neighborhood children, and staying active riding his stationary bike that had belonged to his wife. His sense of humor and kind heart made him beloved by all.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral Arrangements are private and under the direction of SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, Pa.
