Connie Friend Shaffer, age 45, of Smithfield, Pa., died on Saturday, June 21, 2008, with her loving family at her… Connie Friend Shaffer, age 45, of Smithfield, Pa., died on Saturday, June 21, 2008, with her loving family at her side in UPMC Presbyter-ian Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
She was born on May 3, 1963, in Uniontown, Pa., the daughter of Everett Friend and Leona Strawn Friend.
Connie was a member of Grace Community Chapel in Hopwood, Pa.
She graduated from Albert Gallatin High School and worked as a Secretary and Bookkeeper for Shaffer’s Fabricating, Masontown, Pa.
Connie married her high school sweetheart, Bill Shaffer, and they have had 26 joyous years together. Their marriage is a shining example of true love.
A loving daughter, mother and wife, Connie was the most generous, warm-hearted person one could ever meet! Treating others with kindness and respect was second nature to Connie and simply knowing her made you want to be a better person.
Her devotion for faith and community lives on through her work at her Church.
Connie will always be remembered for her loving spirit, her giant heart and her incredible strength!
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Leona Friend, her father-in-law, Joseph W. Shaffer, a sister-in-law, Diana L. Shaffer Houze, a brother-in-law, Joseph W. Shaffer Jr., and a great niece, Hannah Renee Rugh.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, William E. Shaffer Sr.; sons: William “Billy” E. Shaffer Jr. and Joshua A. Shaffer both of Smithfield; her mother-in-law, Betty Jean Shaffer of Smithfield; brother, Bud C. Friend and wife Sharon of Smithfield; sister, Dolores Friend of Uniontown, Pa.; two brothers-in-law: James H. Shaffer and wife Mia and Robert R. Shaffer and wife Lisa both of Smithfield; two sisters-in-law: Tanya “Tammy” L. Ruda and husband Michael of Clarksville, Pa., and Jacqueline “Jackie” A. Shay and husband Scot of Smithfield; nieces and nephews: Debbie Adams of Uniontown, Kelly Friend Hagner and husband Mike, Jennifer Friend Rugh and husband Dickie, and Justin Friend all of Smithfield, Toni Ruda Eberenz and her husband Brendan of Ohio, Nicole Houze and fiance Nicholas Johnston of Pittsburgh, Pa., Joseph Tomack and fiancee Megan Wingard of Masontown, Pa., Jessi Shaffer, Matthew Shay, James Shaffer Jr., Chealsie Shaffer, Robby Shaffer Jr. and Amanda Shaffer all of Smithfield; great nephews, great niece: Tyler “Tylerbug” Hagner, Karley Sue “My Little Angel” Hagner and Logan “Sweetheart” Rugh all of Smithfield and “Little Nicholas” Johnston Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and River Avenue, Masontown, Pa., today, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 25, 2008, until 10 a.m. when the Funeral Services will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Justin Argabright officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Springhill Township, Fayette County, Pa
