Mary Katherine (Hilton) Jackson, 92, Brownsville, Pa., passed away Saturday, June 21, 2008, in Cherry Tree Nursing Center in Uniontown…. Mary Katherine (Hilton) Jackson, 92, Brownsville, Pa., passed away Saturday, June 21, 2008, in Cherry Tree Nursing Center in Uniontown.

She was born August 30, 1915, in Brownsville, daughter of the late Louis Hilton and Geary Davis Hilton.

A lifelong resident of Brownsville, she was the Mother of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church and played the piano for the church in her younger years. She was also a member of Cross Keys Senior Citizens Center in Republic, and Brownsville, and of the former Royal Society Club. She is believed to have been the oldest Black woman in Brownsville.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel T. Jackson, a son, Marvin Jackson and two daughters, Delores Jackson and Beatrice Walker.

She leaves to cherish her memory six sons: Bertram (Pam) Jackson of Ohio, Kenneth Jackson of New Jersey, Emery Jackson of Ohio, Melvin (Arlene) Jackson of Georgia, Leonard Jackson of Brownsville, and Fred (Jean) Duncan of Ohio; three daughters: Shirley Richardson of Brownsville, Leta (Edward “Spunky”)Bagley of Kentucky, and Kathleen (Stanley) Crable of Brownsville; 39 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren; a beloved brother-in-law, George Staples of Brownsville, and a beloved sister-in-law, Lottie Pickard, New Jersey; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, June 26, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Brownsville, and may attend a funeral service there on Friday, at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Karl S. Kemp, Pastor of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church.
